I always feel right at home when I'm in North Carolina.
Got into Raleigh around 6 yesterday -- the drive was uneventful, mainly because I was sleeping off the Waffle House disaster that was wreaking havoc on my stomach.
Linked up with Nick, Jesse, Ben and Quinn from the BIG Something as soon as we got to The Pour House. When I tell peoplethat BIG Something is a jam band, I'll often feel like it does a disservice to how immensely talented these guys are. Rob agreed, mentioning that "some jam bands get up there and just fucking suck."
They put together A Possum Holler Family Jam solely for the show yesterday, which was excellent. We were having a hard time finding a band to perform with us, they came through in a pinch and fucking SLAYED. We only get down to North Carolina once or twice a year, so it's always great to see those dudes play.
A lot of people were waking up from their Mantrabash hangover yet, so there were only around 30 people there, but 90% of them were familiar faces from around the way, which was great. It feels good to know people support you away from home; NC has always been so welcoming to both my music and me as a person, and that doesn't happen everywhere. Carolina puts me at ease, man.
Stayed with Nick at his place in Burlington, hanging out with his dog Jude and watching Duck Dynasty. Also, after we got a few quick previews of BIG Something's new material (y'all aint ready), I got hipped to Funky Geezer, which made my night complete. Check this out:
We're off to Virginia Beach for our day off. Jude sends her love! Merry Kissmas, y'all.
